BOBO LOVES DUMPLINGS | MELISSA MIAO & CHARLOTTE CHENG

Melissa and Charlotte are American-born Chinese mothers, who looked for a book that would help their children learn and practice Mandarin in a fun and playful way, so they created BOBO.

Just like his creators, little BOBO loves Chinese food and a lot of it. This adorable book brings multiple educational opportunities to your children with humor and fun. BOBO learns to count and speak about his yummy foods in two languages.

The story is spiced with humor and colorful illustrations by Kat Uno. And if you look closely, you’ll see a special guest on every page.

On the SunBridge website, you can find fantastic resources that complement the book including a printable coloring page, printable vocabulary page, and an audio version of the book in Mandarin to help you learn the correct pronunciation. Through their book, Melissa and Charlotte encourage early engagement in a dual language experience and foster curiosity in learning Mandarin at an early age. They make reading Mandarin easy and fun for both children and adults!

Melissa Miao graduated from Stanford and Harvard and has a career in healthcare technology. Her two young children attend a Mandarin immersion school and love their teachers and friends there. The family can often be found outdoors hiking and exploring. All that energy usually comes from dumplings, Boba, and shaved ice. They look forward to returning to loud and busy Dim Sum restaurants post-pandemic.

Charlotte Cheng is a curriculum designer and children’s book illustrator. She graduated from Stanford University with a master’s in education. Charlotte has worked at a local Mandarin immersion school and has also worked at companies such as Disney, LeapFrog, and Wonder Workshop. Charlotte likes to visit her family in Taiwan, where she fills her suitcase with picture books. Charlotte has a toddler who loves singing Chinese songs with her grandparents.
